Introduction

The Black Diamond Ultralight Ice Screws are super lightweight ice screw designed for ski mountaineering, glacial travel and high-end alpinism.

Weighing in at 45% lighter thanthe Express Screws, the Black Diamond Ultralight Ice Screw is quick to bite and easy to crank in. The lightest ice screw in the worldcombines a steel tip with an aluminium body, and a forged aluminium hanger that features two clip-in points. The foldable speed-drive knob is colour-coded for quick length identification and offers uninterrupted 360-degree motion. The new Aluminiumhangers are lighter than previous modelsand rack fantastically when put on an ice clipper. The Ultralightis built in four lengths to accommodate a variety of ice conditions.

The onlytrade off with saving 45% of the weight over the Express screws is that the material is less durable than the steel version and the threads will dent easier. As a result these screwsare designed for those ski mountaineering, glacial travel and high-end alpinism days where weight needs to be at a minimum.
